Christmas is getting closer and our purses are getting significantly lighter as a result. The November paycheck already seems a long way off but you’re not the only one experiencing this slump. It’s common to have money worries during this season – so how can you address them?
Of course we enjoy the festivities as much as the next person, but when it’s you doing all of the spending, it does start to add up and can become quite daunting. Whilst we may be told it is the season to be jolly, when your husband catches his first glimpse at the shopping receipt it is unlikely to remain such a jovial occasion.
Tackling Christmas Shopping for Kids
Your husband insists he doesn’t want a present but you’ve spied out the Chanel perfume he’s bought for you in his underwear drawer and can’t possibly return the favour with a pair of socks. Meanwhile, your children have wish lists as long as your arms – packed full of expensive toys and gadgets that they simply can’t survive without. Combined together, all this makes Christmas shopping something of a delicate balance, requiring a great deal of patience and forethought on your part.
The trick of getting to grips with your Christmas shopping is to be prepared. That doesn’t necessarily mean having your presents bought, wrapped, and under a non-existent tree by the first of November but the last thing you need is to be dashing around the shops the week before Christmas looking for presents whilst still planning what party food for kids you can prepare for the approaching celebrations.
Keep a note of what you’re spending. That way you make sure you spend an equal amount on each of your children. There may be presents stuffed at the back of the wardrobe from last year’s sales, so have a search for any strays before you start shopping.
It’s also important that you take time to look after yourself – after all, Christmas is a time you should enjoy. Listen to music and treat yourself to a couple of festive goodies. These don’t have to break the bank and you can find plenty of tips and money off coupons on Super Savvy Me if you’re looking for something tasty and filling which won’t cause your waistband to expand too much.
Remember to start your shopping early so you have plenty of time to get everything ready and prepare any food you can in advance. This is especially important when it comes to the pivotal Christmas cake.
